& Automobiles, Oelwein's event celebrating the community's
long-standing history with these traditional modes of transportation is
being held tomorrow, Saturday, July 19.
Start the day flying high at the Fly In Breakfast at the Oelwein
Municipal Airport, closely followed by the aerobatic performers at 10
a.m. Hot air ballon rides will be available throughout the day Saturday
at the airport. Aircraft displays and demonstrations of Air Care
Choppers, Ultralites, WWII Steerman and other warbirds will also be
featured.
Hailing from Oelwein, Walter Chrysler is the inspiration for the day
long, motorcycle Poker Run and local classic car cruise! The Motorcycle
Poker Run will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday morning from Dean's Honda. The
Classic Car Cruise will be held from 5 until 6 p.m.
The Chicago Great Western Railway's "maple leaf route" brings emphasis
to the railroading history in the community. Tours of the lookout
tower, hand car rides, and dioramas depicting the famed "Round House"
will be available to rail enthusiasts of all ages. The Railroad Museum
will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Sunday. Local bus tours will depart every hour on the hour from the
museum Saturday 11 a.m. through 4 p.m.
The day will close with an evening meal and social event. Burgers,
bands and beverages will be available from 5 p.m. until midnight at the
Plaza Parking Lot in downtown Oelwein. The motorcycles' Parade of
Lights will be held on South Frederick Street from 9 until 10 p.m.
