Update on Injured Girl in Canoe Accident
Posted 22 July 2008
Officials say the 4-year-old girl rescued in a canoe
accident in Fayette on Sunday, July 20, remains hospitalized in
critical condition in Iowa City.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff's office, Octavia George, 4,
was with her parents, Nigel and Julie George, of Fayette, and her
3-year-old brother on a canoe trip on the Volga River when the accident
occurred.
The canoe overturned and the girl was trapped underneath. She was
rescued by other members of the outing and given CPR at the scene.
The child was airlifted to University Hospitals in Iowa City. A
spokeswoman there reported yesterday, Monday, that she was in critical
condition.
The child's parents and brother were taken to a hospital in West Union
for treatment of their injuries. Other members of the canoe outing were
not injured in the incident.
