Guatemalan Man Pleads Guilty, Faces Prison Time

Carlos Tzirin-Rodriguez, originally from Guatemala, now
faces up to 12 years in prison for entering a guilty plea to entering
the U.S. illegally.
Tzirin-Rodriguez entered the country illegally to work at the
Agriprocessors meatpacking plant in Postville. Authorities say he
entered the U.S. around April 1, 2006, at or near San Ysidro, Calif.,
with the aid of a smuggler.
Tzirin-Rodriguez pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids
on July 16 to possessing a resident alien card not lawfully issued to
him and knowingly possessing the
identification of another person.
Sentencing for Tzirin-Rodriguez has not yet been scheduled.
