Beef
Quality
Assurance Training March 22 in Edgewood

Local cattlemen are
invited to a Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) Certification program
scheduled for March 22 at the Edgewood Livestock Commission. For
nearly twenty years, the beef industry’s Beef Quality Assurance program
has encouraged producers to adopt practices that lead to higher quality
carcasses and greater consumer confidence in beef.
The program will run from noon to 3 pm and will feature three
speakers. Brian Waddingham, BQA coordinator and Director of
Industry Relations for the Iowa Beef Industry Council will lead the BQA
training. Dr. Ryan Royer from the Elkader Vet Clinic will give a
demonstration on a realize steer. Finally, Denise Schwab, ISU
Extension Beef specialist will discuss adding value to calves.
The event is sponsored by the Clayton County Cattlemen’s Association,
the Elkader Veterinary Clinic, Edgewood Livestock Commission, and Iowa
State University Extension. A complimentary lunch will be
provided by Intervet Scherig-Plough Animal Health.
