Iowa 4-H Foundation Hires New Development Director
Posted 18 June 2010
Rae Von Holdt has been hired as the new development director for the Iowa 4-H Foundation, according to Executive Director Joe Leisz. Von Holdt began the position June 1.

With a degree in landscape architecture from Iowa State University, Von Holdt has 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, most recently serving as the executive director of the Botanical Garden of the Ozarks. Her previous positions include development director for the Terrace Hill Foundation and Wesley Retirement Services, and executive director of the Iowa Arboretum. Von Holdt and her husband, Richard, live in rural Dallas County.

“Rae brings a wealth of experience in fundraising and a great personal history and passion for 4-H.  She will help the Iowa 4-H program grow with new resources in these challenging times,” Leisz said.

Von Holdt brings a depth of experience in all aspects of fundraising, including annual giving, planned giving, capital campaigns and special events. At the Iowa Arboretum she worked collaboratively with Florine Swanson, former executive director of the Iowa 4-H Foundation, to raise the money needed to pave Peach Avenue leading to the Iowa 4-H Center and Arboretum entrances.

“Growing up in Iowa, I belonged to a 4-H club in Audubon County.  My children were 4-H club members and currently my oldest daughter is a 4-H club leader in Dallas County,” Von Holdt said.

“I’m proud to have been chosen by the 4-H Foundation for this important role. In today’s economic climate, it is critical to raise the funds necessary to maintain the high caliber of 4-H programming that we expect and admire. I look forward to meeting current and former 4-H’ers throughout the state as I visit numerous county fairs throughout the summer as well as the Iowa State Fair in August,” she said.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation, www.iowa4hfoundation.org, provides the financial resources to develop and deliver quality 4-H youth programs throughout the state of Iowa. The opportunities provided by the foundation help young people enhance their ability to use critical thinking, leadership, communication and social skills – tools that will give them a competitive edge in their future endeavors. The Iowa 4-H Foundation is a charitable 501 (c) 3 organization with a governing board of 35 trustees.
